Editor’s Note: On March 10, the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) opened at the UN headquarters in New York. Zhang Yinjun, leading the delegation of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, attended the conference and shared the foundation’s proactive efforts in promoting the physical and mental well-being of Chinese youth and the empowerment of women. She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to fulfilling its role as a UN special consultative organization, providing professional and philanthropic support from China’s civil society to global discussions. Below are the key topics of focus from the third and fourth days of the conference.
On March 12-13, CSW69 focused on critical issues such as “Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment” and “National Mechanisms for the Empowerment of Girls and Accelerating the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action.” On the morning of March 12, a ministerial roundtable featured representatives from various countries sharing their policies and best practices in advancing gender equality. On March 13, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the progress and challenges faced by the Commission on the Status of Women in promoting global gender equality. They underscored the importance of continued resource investment and policy support, calling for strengthened international cooperation to accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the conference, Zhang Yinjun, Chairperson of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, addressed international representatives as a voice of China’s civil society. She introduced the foundation’s initiatives in spreading knowledge and preventing infections, equipping women and youth with the ability to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has described Changier’s approach as “turning off the tap at the source,” recognizing that the foundation does not merely respond to problems after they arise but proactively intervenes to prevent them before they occur.
The 1995 Beijing Declaration, born from the World Conference on Women, has given rise to new models of practice over the past three decades. As a representative of Chinese social organizations, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation remains committed to injecting fresh momentum into the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the global advancement of youth rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
The Beijing Changier Education Foundation delegation included Chen Qiuhui, Du Liwen, Cheng Zhigang, Wang Huiying, Bai Jiarui, Liu Yuhan, Wang Yuan, She Jingqian, Li Jianfeng, She Rong’en, Wang Chaofang, and Chen Cheng, who actively participated in related events.
