Jakarta, April 6, 2025. Five days ago, love set out from here; five days later, love takes root here.
Over the past five days, Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation and Ms. Zhang Yinjun, President of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, along with her group, traveled more than a thousand kilometers on average each day by land, sea, and air, averaging less than four hours of sleep per night. At 2 a.m. on April 6, the group finally returned to Jakarta. Everyone worked non-stop for 20 hours to honor this commitment. This is a long journey of the heart and spirit.
Before leaving the island, the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation and the Beijing Changier Education Foundation held a press conference where they announced three major charitable initiatives. Traversing mountains and seas, crossing national borders, all to keep a promise to Indonesian philanthropists - gathering their love, drop by drop, into a flowing river of compassion.
The ceremony was held at the Awakening National Museum in Indonesia and was both grand and cordial. Guests gathered in person to collectively witness the power of love. The attendees of this meeting include: twin sisters Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih, Mr. Nur Khosim, M.Hum., Director of the Awakening National Museum in Indonesia, Ms. Rosy Admiral and Ms. Rian Feizal from the Kartini Emergency School (Sekolah Darurat Kartini), Dr. Hasmoro, Sp.An, KIC, MHA, MM, Director of Hermina Hospital, and his wife Drg. Kundarti Hasmoro, Sp.Ort, Mr. Yully Kusnadi, S.E., M.Pd., representing the Indonesian branch of the Tzu Chi Foundation, representatives from the Indonesian Kinmen Association, two distinguished guests from the Indonesian military—a current Navy General and a retired female Navy officer, as well as representatives from Radio Taiwan International (RTI) and various media outlets.
The press conference was jointly hosted by Ms. Julie Feizal, an official from Indonesia's Ministry of Education, and Ms. Betty Angel, the interpreter.
Triple release: Making love resonate as it lands
Three significant charitable initiatives were announced at this press conference.
First, the Indonesian edition of the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation's life education book, "I Still Have One Foot," has been officially released. The book has been published in more than 17 million copies worldwide. The Indonesian edition has become the book's 44th language version and will soon be available to children in Indonesia. Meanwhile, all proceeds from the sale of this book in Indonesia will be donated to charity.
Second, the twin sisters Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih have released their "Taiwan Award Diary" for the first time. This document captures their experiences and impressions during their trip to Taiwan to receive the Life Medal, highlighting the authentic emotions involved in cross-national charity. Similarly, as a charitable endeavor, all proceeds are dedicated to charitable purposes.
Third, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation's significant project, the "Maternal Love Academy," has been launched in Indonesia. President Zhang Yinjun presented plaques to the twin sisters Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih, with the intention of introducing the Changier charity education system, which encompasses a comprehensive educational philosophy, to Indonesia. This initiative aims to empower more mothers and bring warmth to more families.
President Zhang Yinjun stated in her speech, "On my first visit to Indonesia, I deeply feel that great love knows no bounds." With love sent by the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, we witness pure friendship and warmth. As the President of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation and the Dean of the Maternal Love Academy, it is a heartfelt moment to join with all parties today to unveil the Maternal Love Academy and promote the Education of Love. China and Indonesia established diplomatic relations in 1950 and jointly advocated a community with a shared future for mankind in 2022. Maternal Love Academy and Maternal Love University are its educational entities, backed by various sectors in China and Indonesia. "Let's join hands to create a better Asia, strengthen mutual visits, and embrace our shared future together."
On the day of the press conference, innocent children showcased wonderful talent performances. These children all came from the "Emergency School" founded by twin sisters. Most of them live in slums, facing poverty and malnutrition, yet they have found dignity in life under the nurturing care of maternal love and education.
The live Angklung ensemble performance was especially captivating. This traditional musical instrument performance from West Java is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. It requires collaboration among many people, symbolizing the symbiotic concept of "unity in diversity." Following this, boys adorned with feathers and grass skirts performed the Baris Dance, embodying the energetic and spirited mindset before heading into battle, rich with national pride. The final performance was Tari Payung (Umbrella Dance). Tari Payung, originating from the Minangkabau culture of West Sumatra, extends the warmest welcome to distinguished guests from afar, as the girls gracefully display their exotic beauty on stage.
Every action is rooted in the kindness and confidence cultivated by the fertile ground of love and education. The performance ended around noon, and the children lined up to receive their lunch boxes. Ms. Zhang Yinjun quietly shared most of the food from her lunch box with the children around her—these children were small in stature, but their eyes were full of hope. She wished that by the next time she saw them, they would have grown taller and gained a little weight.
Maternal Love Academy: Connecting the world through maternal love
"The Maternal Love Academy" is a flagship project of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, developed over the long term. Maternal Love University embraces five educational philosophies: love and goodness, love and equality, love and development, love and sharing, and love and harmony. The design of the Maternal Love Academy system includes the top-tier Maternal Love University, mid-tier Maternal Love Academy, and the grassroots Maternal Love Community. Maternal Love University plays a leading role; Maternal Love Academy serves as a platform; Maternal Love Community provides support. This design aligns with the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and embodies an exploration and implementation of this idea.
The presentation of the plaque to the Indonesian twin sisters not only acknowledges their long-term dedication to public welfare education and support for marginalized groups but also signifies that the Maternal Love Academy, backed by the Indonesian authorities, is successfully integrating with local charitable efforts. This initiative plants the seeds of the Chinese approach in Indonesia's diverse and inclusive society, connecting the world through love.
The Beijing Changier Education Foundation hopes to join these sisters in raising the flag of maternal love in more places where warmth is needed. This award ceremony marks both the culmination of one journey and the start of a new one. The seed of maternal love education has been quietly sown in the vast lands of Indonesia.
The Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation and the Beijing Changier Education Foundation came to Indonesia this time with several large suitcases filled with gifts for the children. As Chou Chin-Hua, the founder of the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, took the last gift from the box and handed it to the child, he said, "If I could carry them all, I would bring every gift for the children!" His voice was hoarse and trembling. During their several-day journey, the two founders of the foundation traveled, purchasing supplies for the children and distributing gifts to them along the way.
On the way back, all the large boxes were empty, but everyone's hearts were filled with the children's beaming smiles.
