In April 2025, at the invitation of the Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, Ms. Zhang Yinjun, President of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, traveled to Indonesia to participate in the "Send Love to Indonesia" public service visit and research activities. During her six-day trip, she visited locations such as Jakarta and Bali, engaging in face-to-face exchanges with representatives from the government, businesses, non-profit organizations, and the education sector. She also conducted on-site visits to special education institutions, refugee children's centers, and social enterprises, facilitating the establishment of the Maternal Love Academy in Indonesia. During this visit, Zhang Yinjun not only shared China's expertise but also elevated civil charitable cooperation between China and Indonesia to a new level.
The First Stop: Discovering courage through Karate and exploring the world of refugee children
On April 1, 2025, President Zhang Yinjun visited the Cisarua Refugee Shotokan Karate Club in the suburbs of Jakarta to offer educational and psychological support to refugee children from Afghanistan and other countries who are stranded there.
During the event, Zhang Yinjun met Meena Asadi, the founder of the club and a former Afghan national karate athlete, who remains dedicated to education in Indonesia, creating a safe haven for children. During this period, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation and the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation launched the "One Book, One Love" initiative and donated books and supplies to support refugee children. Under the initiative of two foundations, the 76-year-old Indonesian philanthropic sisters, Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih, announced the integration of the club into their educational system to offer children ongoing development opportunities.
In conversations with refugee mothers, Zhang Yinjun encouraged them to empower themselves through education and to persevere with determination. Beijing Changier Education Foundation will continue to promote humanitarian aid and educational equity from a global perspective, contributing to the creation of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Second Stop: The "Kartini Emergency School" beneath the bridge in Indonesia, witnessing the resilient spirit of education
On April 2, President Zhang Yinjun visited the "Kartini Emergency School," established by twin sisters Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih. The school was originally set up beneath a bridge in Jakarta to offer basic education to homeless children from slums who cannot afford tuition. Despite the basic conditions and the lack of textbooks, the children persist in studying through wind and rain, showing a strong thirst for knowledge and resilience.
The septuagenarian twin sisters, born into a military family, have done everything possible to provide food and clothing for the children, even cultivating their own land to grow rice, simply to ensure the children receive a hot meal and learn survival skills. Even more touching is that they have sponsored 64 "Kartini Emergency Schools" in Indonesia.
This visit was a philanthropic project survey conducted by the Beijing Changier Education Foundation in the area, laying the groundwork for the foundation's future major philanthropic projects in Indonesia.
The Third Stop: Painting the beauty of life with artists with disabilities
On April 3, President Zhang Yinjun and her delegation visited the renowned differently-abled artist Winda Karunadhita in Bali, Indonesia. Despite being bedridden with muscular dystrophy since childhood, Winda taught herself to paint with remarkable determination, creating numerous delicate and moving works.
Additionally, she allocates a portion of her painting proceeds to support other individuals with disabilities in learning art, thereby spreading kindness and hope. Zhang Yinjun remarked that Winda's story truly embodies the dignity of life, the healing power of art, and social inclusion. Using her brush to confront adversity, she illuminated others' lives, showcasing the strength and value of people with disabilities. Beijing Changier Education Foundation will collaborate with the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation to jointly promote Winda's works and further explore the philanthropic cooperation model of "art intervention in education," providing a platform for expression and growth for more overlooked individuals.
The Fourth Stop: Visiting Denpasar's "Graha Nawasena" to discuss the path to disability inclusion
On April 4, President Zhang Yinjun and his delegation visited the "Graha Nawasena" collaborative project in Denpasar, Bali, to discuss the social integration and sustainable development of people with disabilities.
"Graha Nawasena", founded by former sailor Juniarta who is paraplegic, has helped over 500 people with disabilities find employment and start their own businesses. It is the only self-help organization for people with disabilities that is integrated into the national education system. Zhang Yinjun listened to the stories of two young deaf individuals who missed the opportunity for treatment but found employment through self-reliance. She urged society to focus on providing early intervention and ongoing support. She encourages Juniarta to more broadly promote the "decentralized" self-help model for people with disabilities in Indonesia to achieve greater social inclusion.
Although initiated by civil society, "Graha Nawasena" has successfully bridged the gap between individuals and institutional systems, showcasing remarkable model value. This model also offers guidance and inspiration for the Beijing Changier Education Foundation's global public welfare initiatives.
The Fifth Stop: Twin sisters illuminating the "Maternal Love Academy" with Indonesian spark
On the morning of April 6, President Zhang Yinjun, together with the Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, held a press conference at the Awakening National Museum in Jakarta to announce the launch of three significant charitable initiatives. The press conference was attended by numerous guests, fostering a warm and dignified atmosphere that highlighted the deep bonds of international philanthropic cooperation. Students from the "Emergency School" delivered a traditional music and dance performance that was truly moving.
The three initiatives announced this time include: the official release of the Indonesian version of "I Still Have One Foot," a model book on life education, with all proceeds from charity sales dedicated to public welfare; the debut of the "Taiwan Award Diary" by the founders of the "Kartini Emergency School," Indonesian twin sisters Sri Rossyati and Sri Irianingsih; and the official inauguration of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation's "Maternal Love Academy" in Indonesia, empowering local mothers and families to grow.
The Sixth Stop: Indonesia's first "Maternal Love Academy" is about to be established, with the Beijing Changier Education Foundation collaborating with Metland and the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation to create a model.
On the afternoon of April 6, President Zhang Yinjun met in Jakarta with representatives from Indonesia's Metland and the Yayasan Metropolitan Peduli, where both parties reached an important consensus. The meeting decided that the Beijing Changier Education Foundation will establish Indonesia's first "Maternal Love Academy" in West Java, with Metland donating the land and other resources free of charge. This is an important milestone in the international expansion of the concept of "Maternal Love Education."
Metland fully acknowledges the significant impact of the Maternal Love Academy on mothers from special groups in areas such as psychological support, skills training, and family rebuilding. The Group is eager to collaborate in establishing a long-term platform to serve disadvantaged mothers and children in Indonesia.
The meeting also confirmed four cooperation agreements, including the joint establishment of the "University of Human Maternal Love," Metland's provision of land for the construction of the "Maternal Love Academy," the promotion of local university participation in the collaboration, and the awarding of the "Fervent Global Love of Lives Award" to Metland Chairman Mr. Nanda Widya.
Conclusion: Fostering global empathy in education, spreading love across borders
During President Zhang Yinjun's trip to Indonesia, the "Education of Love" global initiative was a constant theme: whether interacting with refugee teenagers or disabled youth, or promoting cross-cultural cooperation, she consistently conveyed the confidence to listen, accompany, and rebuild from the perspective of an educator and a mother.
Meanwhile, Beijing Changier Education Foundation has made more international strides in this process, using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework to continuously advance the implementation of key issues such as "Quality Education", "Gender Equality", "Reducing Inequality", and "Global Partnerships".
