On March 31, on the eve of the Cold Food Festival in the Year of the Dragon, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation (Changier) with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, together with the Taiwan Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, and the Shanghai Story Mommy Studio, jointly held a seminar and exchange meeting in Changsha, Hunan, titled "Telling Stories of Mothers Cross-Straits." With the theme "Unite as One Family Across the Straits, Give Love Wings to Fly," the event reached multiple consensuses on cooperation initiatives, including "Telling Stories of Mothers in Taiwan," weaving the "maternal love bond" across the Taiwan Strait, promoting maternal love education in communities across both sides of the strait, and promoting traditional Chinese family values and virtues in thousands of households. The symposium was chaired by Hsin-Wen Huang, a native of Taoyuan, Taiwan, and founder of the Shanghai Story Mommy Studio. The three parties hosting the symposium jointly signed a LOI of “Cross-Strait Cooperation for Telling Stories of Mothers," and collectively initiated the establishment of the "Cross-Strait Maternal Love Education Consortium," with secretariats located in both Shanghai and Taipei; they also announced the launch of the "Telling Stories of Mothers in Taiwan" charity campaign, with plans to hold the charity event called "Telling Stories of Mothers Around the Island" in Taiwan in the second half of this year.
Approximately 50 guests from various sectors across the strait attended the event in person, and several representatives of Taiwanese mothers and fathers also delivered outstanding speeches.
Kicking off the symposium, the Taiwan Down Syndrome Children's Orchestra delivered a live performance, deeply touching the attending guests.
In his speech, Mr. Chou Chin-Hua, founder of the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, delivered a poignant speech sharing heartrending tales of mothers who accompany their children through difficulties. During his speech, he had each representative of mothers and fathers from Taiwan, especially parents to children with Down syndrome, share their wonderful stories and heartwarming life experiences. A video showed how Chou’s son, Chou Ta-Kuan, valiantly battled illness while celebrating his life, with scenes of heartfelt support from numerous Taiwanese compatriots, including Mr. Ma Ying-jeou. After the death of their 10-year-old son, Chou Ta-Kuan, Chou Chin-Hua and his wife Guo Yinglan founded the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation with the donations from the society, turning the love to their kid into universal care for all children.
Chairman Zhang Yinjun was in tears throughout almost the entire discussion session. She was moved by the performances of Taiwan "Down Syndrome Children Orchestra" and by the touching stories of every Taiwanese parents. She proposed the idea of "building a maternal bond across the strait," which resonated with the participants. She said that the people on both sides of the strait are of familial ties, and the maternal love is the best bond. With heartfelt sentiment, she recited renowned verses from Taiwanese poets Yu Guangzhong's "Nostalgia" and Yu Youren's "Gazing Homeward," putting forth proposals to both foundations: honor life and extend love universally; uplift maternal affection and foster familial unity; safeguard children and revere seniors; cultivate familial virtues and transmit family ethics; unite families across the strait, letting love soar high! She also encouraged all Chinese people to take this to heart.
