On April 2, the 17th World Autism Awareness Day, the "Canadian CBI Inclusive Education Pyramid Seminar" was held in Beijing from March 30 to 31. The seminar, led by the Beijing Changier Education Foundation Autism Special Fund and co-organized by Children & Family Language Behavior (Beijing) Tech Co., Ltd. alongside the Embassy of Canada in China, aimed to broaden social awareness, improve professional capabilities, and facilitate the rehabilitation and social assimilation of autistic children. Over 30 attendees, including kindergarten principals, managers of educational institutions, and inclusive educators from major cities like Beijing, Shenzhen, Qingdao, and Dalian, participated. China Alliance Appraisal Co., Ltd., C&C Joint Printing Co., (Beijing) Ltd., and Beijing Chuangyuan Huizhi Technology Co., Ltd. Sponsored the event.
Approximately 13 million individuals in China have autism, with over 3 million being children, as per partial data, and the prevalence is on the rise. Behind these figures numerous families are struggling and suffering. Evidence suggests that inclusive education is a pivotal method for autistic children to access schools and assimilate into society. Therefore, the development of inclusive education has become a pressing concern.
Remarks by Zhang Yinjun, Chairman of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation
The seminar's organizer, Tao Liangui, director of the Autism Special Fund within the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, is both an experienced inclusive education expert for autism and a parent to an autistic child. He initiated the specialized fund after his returning to China in 2018. Drawing from his dual perspective and deep insights into autism education, he dedicated himsef to the scientific integration of inclusive education for children with autism and the localization promotion of international advanced educational concepts and models.
Tao emphasized that children with autism grapple with myriad obstacles during their development, and that a scientific inclusive education program is crucial for overcoming these hurdles and unlocking their potential. The CBI inclusive education pyramid course is a targeted training for early educators, shadow teachers, and parents in China. As an evidence based model, it fosters the social-emotional skills of young children, improves children's capability in social, emotional, behavioral, and academic domains. Moreover, it efficiently addresses the core issues confronted by children with special needs, thereby opening up more opportunities for social integration and self-worth realization.
Participants actively engaged in the Q&A session
The seminar explored multifaceted dimensions of inclusive education, ranging from instructional techniques to curriculum design and case studies. It aimed to share current research findings and practical experiences in integrated education, providing effective guidance and suggestions. Additionally, the seminar had group discussions, tests, and networking sessions, allowing every inclusive education professional in attendance to raise questions and actively participate in discussions. This provided them with practical tools and strategies for promoting and implementing inclusive education in their own practical settings.
