On April 21, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation's "Telling Stories of Mothers Charity Event" visited Shaoshan Village in Shaoshan City, Hunan Province.
Tang Ruiren, a 95-year-old grandmother of the Mao family, has become the representative mother of the new era in the "Telling Stories of Mothers" initiative. Mao Taozhi, the 63-year-old chairwoman of the Maojia Group and daughter of Tang Ruiren, along with village representatives, shared the remarkable story of Tang Ruiren's decades of hard work and her legendary life. Mao Taozhi said, "My mother was born into poverty, begging for food from the age of 5, and was married into the Mao family at the age of 14. To support my father Mao Kaiqing in joining the revolution, she single-handedly took on the heavy responsibility of serving her parents-in-law and raising children in Shaoshan. After liberation, my mother worked hard but unfortunately became disabled. After the reform and opening up, my mother founded the Maojia Restaurant with the aim of serving the people at age 58. Over the past few decades, my mother opened Maojia Restaurants all over the country, making the taste of Shaoshan famous worldwide. Not being an educator, my mother took the responsibility and sponsored thousands of poor children to go to school; not serving in the military, she treated soldiers as family and required that our entire family care for, love, support, and protect soldiers, earning us a renowned reputation as model military family; not being a party propaganda official, for decades she kept promoting the red spirit of Shaoshan and disseminated the thoughts of Mao; not working for the government, she welcomed guests from all over the world visiting Shaoshan for over half a century. My mother's story is a microcosm of the stories of mothers from Shaoshan.
On the morning of the 21st, Gao Shuqun, the Strategic Advisor and Director of the Maternal Love Education Committee of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, chaired the seminar on "Telling Stories of Mothers, Families, and Hometowns by the Youth".
