On May 26, 2023, under the guidance of the China Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS Prevention and Control Association, the 12th International AIDS Anti-discrimination Lunch Day event was co-hosted by the Beijing Changier Education Foundation and Linfen Red Ribbon School at the Linfen Red Ribbon School. Different from the event of previous years, the event on May 25 this year was held in the form of a wedding feast. Two of the school's earliest graduates, who were infected with AIDS via mother-to-child transmission, Cuicui (alias) and Xiaofan (alias), held their wedding with love and support.
On behalf of Zhang Yinjun, Chairman of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, Lei Zhitian, Deputy Director of the China APEPCY Academic Committee and Senior Researcher at Taihe Institute, attended the event. He conveyed blessings to the newlyweds on behalf of all members of Changier.
Mr. Gu Mingyuan, 95 years old, a famous educator and Lifetime Honorary President of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, personally inscribed wedding blessings for Cuicui and Xiaofan.
The source of inspiration for the International AIDS Anti-discrimination Lunch Day event, which has been successfully held for 12 years, was a wedding feast. 12 years ago, Liu Liping, a teacher at the Red Ribbon School infected with HIV, was invited to a friend's wedding. However, when she sat down, she noticed that other guests at her table gradually left, leaving her alone. Later, it was revealed that they had left due to the fear of contracting AIDS from dining with her. Upon learning of this matter, Principal Guo Xiaoping had mixed feelings about the fact that discrimination even existed among medical workers. Therefore, he proposed the AIDS Anti-discrimination Lunch Day event, aiming to educate the public about AIDS prevention through sharing a meal and to combat AIDS discrimination. The International AIDS Anti-discrimination Lunch Day event has been held for 12 years, and many volunteers and charitable enterprises have taken action to support people with serious diseases.
During the wedding ceremony, Wang Xinlun, President of the China Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS Prevention and Control Association, officiated the wedding. Hu Haiquan, a famous singer, Sister Ju Ping and Brother Jindou, celebrated children's show hosts, and Wang Meng, an opera actor, also graced the event with stellar performances. The newlyweds received blessings from guests from all over China on May 26, the International AIDS Anti-discrimination Lunch Day.
The Linfen Red Ribbon School is reported as the only school in China specifically receiving children infected with AIDS through mother-to-child transmission. Both the bride, Cuicui, and the groom, Xiaofan, lost their biological parents at a young age. They have been living and studying in the Red Ribbon School since 2004. The Red Ribbon School then was the Love Classroom of Linfen Third People's Hospital. Along with 16 of their peers, under the guardianship of Principal Guo Xiaoping and the support of various leaders and good-hearted people, they graduated from high school in 2017 and were admitted by universities. Today's wedding not only celebrates the love between Cuicui and Xiaofan but also symbolizes the blossoming of seeds of love sown 19 years ago.
